Its time for a laugh for the passengers, but I think the driver is terrified!! Okay, it had to be done. What's the point of having a P85D if you don't go INSANE! Ha ha ha. Met up with fellow Tesla owner wpapua for a lovely chat, cup of tea and bickie. Thanks Mrs wpapua! While we had our chat John offered some electrons while I was there, adding about 28 km of range. I would have had enough to get home with about 30 km to spare without going into the 'reserve' but wpapua gave me some extra insurance..
This trip was really in quite ideal conditions; little wind, warm temperatures and a new battery. Come winter with wet roads and a head wind, a charge up between Melbourne and Portland will be necessary! I arrived home with 59 km to spare. I was quite impressed with the Tesla's economy on this trip so far, as you can see by the picture below. 160 wh/km
I had been travelling at the speed limit except for the hold up on the Melbourne - Geelong road. By the time I reached Colac, the predicted charge remaining was now 6%
A bug in the Nav prevents me from plotting a normal course at times, as the nav tries to route me via the Richmond Supercharger. However once I charge up at my home, I expect the nav to be more predictable. 2/10/2015
By the time I reached the food and toilet stop on the Geelong bypass, range had returned and now showed 9% predicted charge remaining when I arrived home. The Melbourne - Geelong freeway has been an economical run whether using a conventional ICE, hybrid and now appears an EV as well. Closed lane because of accident. As the car was now travelling very slowly and with air con, the range has been compromised somewhat. A change of strategy was required ... Bumper to bumper as a result of an accident on the Geelong road. |
