Today I was involved with a little promotion work for the newly installed Tesla Destination Chargers at the Richmond/Henty Hotel/Motel. As a lead-in, I invited my contact for a short ride and some insane indulgence :)
The beta version of 'Autopilot' works great. I reckon I could travel to Melbourne 90% on 'Autopilot' if I chose to.
It was quite eerie and creepy at the start but after a while I got more and more confident in its ability to steer the car unaided. Of course I remained vigilant during this time, but I can see as time progresses, the car will become more accurate in deciphering the elements around it.
A major change was made to the UI (User Interface) or Dash as you can see in the NOW and PREVIOUS pictures below ...
Received notice this morning that the long awaited software update for the Tesla had arrived OTA (Over The Air). That is a WiFi download direct to the car. This update will enable auto 'Parallel Park' (I know many cars have had this for quite some time), 'Individual Tyre Pressure' display, 'Auto Lane Change' plus many minor improvements and the biggie is 'Auto Steer'. Am currently installing the software and looking forward to trying it out ...
In the pic below, the clock symbol indicates a software update is available.

Lots of people had no idea what this car was, but there were a few who knew. A lot had a read of the display I had printed off and asked many questions.
When we had done a couple of runs , the guy doing the starts suggested he rig up the timers just for us. It wasn't planned to do timed runs but he was so impressed he need to know how we would go.
So Alan and I each had a drag on our own, there was no direct competition as it hadn't been planned and there was no Ambulance in attendance.
The SHOW ...
Remember this is a stock P85D Model S Sedan that can acommodate 7 people (5+2)
You have to admit, the Model S P85D does pretty well against some V8 Muscle cars ...
I had to take my big sister for a drive in the new car and I HAD to give her a dose of Insane. He He He
